Podcast Profits Unleashed Episode 314 featuring host Karen Roberts and guest Daniel Weisleder, discussing how to communicate business value, turn interested prospects into paying clients, and sell outcomes rather than services.

Why Interested Prospects Don't Buy: How Coaches Can Sell the Value of Their Services

October 27, 2026•4 min read

Have you ever finished a sales call feeling sure you'd just signed a new client?

They loved your offer.

They asked questions. They understood your process. They agreed your coaching or consulting could help them.

Then came the words:

"I need to think about it."

And you never heard from them again.

It's easy to assume the problem was your price.

But what if they simply didn't understand why taking action was worth the investment?

That's what I explored with business value consultant and B2B sales strategist Daniel Weisleder on Podcast Profits Unleashed.

And his insights could change how you sell your expertise.

Why Interested Prospects Don't Always Become Clients

Daniel explained something that many business owners overlook.

Your biggest competitor isn't always another company.

Sometimes it's the decision to do nothing.

A prospect might understand your service and still decide that changing their current situation isn't worth the cost.

That doesn't mean your offer is wrong.

It means you may not have communicated the business value clearly enough.

People need more than an explanation of what you do.

They need to understand why the outcome matters.

Stop Selling Coaching Sessions. Start Selling Outcomes.

Think about how you describe your coaching program.

Do you talk about the number of sessions?

The modules?

The resources and support?

Those details help explain your offer.

But they're not the main reason someone invests.

Your clients want to know what could change in their lives or businesses.

Will they be better equipped to close sales?

Could they make better business decisions?

Might they stop wasting time on work that doesn't move them forward?

These are the conversations that help people understand value.

Daniel made a distinction between selling a product and selling an investment.

The person who wants a solution may not be the person who controls the budget.

And the budget holder needs a reason to prioritize that investment.

Even when you sell directly to a business owner, that person still needs to decide whether your offer is worth the money.

The Two Words That Can Transform Your Sales Message

One of my favourite lessons from Daniel was simple.

Ask, "So what?"

Let's say you help clients save time.

So what?

What will they do with that time?

Maybe they'll spend more time working with customers.

So what?

Perhaps that allows them to serve more customers or improve their sales process.

Now you're talking about a business outcome.

The aim is to connect what your service does to something the buyer truly values.

And when the result isn't easy to measure, Daniel suggests using reasonable assumptions.

You can explore different possible outcomes without promising results you cannot guarantee.

How to Explain the Cost of Doing Nothing

Here's a question I often encourage business owners to consider:

What happens if nothing changes?

Imagine a prospect has a problem that's already costing them time or opportunities.

They could invest in solving it.

Or they could carry on.

But carrying on is still a decision.

Daniel encourages businesses to examine the cost of maintaining the status quo.

What opportunities might be lost?

Which problems will remain?

What might those problems cost over the next year?

This isn't about frightening people into buying.

It's about helping them understand the consequences of their choices.

And sometimes the honest answer is that the investment doesn't make sense.

That's important too.

What to Say When Someone Needs to Think About It

When a prospect says, "I need to think about it," don't automatically assume the conversation is over.

Daniel recommends asking:

"What is it that you need to think about?"

It's a genuine question.

Perhaps they aren't sure the solution will work.

Perhaps they doubt their ability to implement it.

Or maybe they don't yet believe the outcome justifies the investment.

Until you understand their concern, you can't have a useful conversation about it.

Why This Matters for Podcast Guesting

This same principle applies when you're a guest on someone else's podcast.

You can share useful information for 40 minutes and still leave listeners unsure why they should work with you.

Being interesting isn't enough.

Your audience needs to understand the change you help people make.

That's why I teach coaches and experts to use podcast guesting strategically.

Share your expertise, but connect it to outcomes your listeners care about.

Then make the next step clear.

Final Thoughts

The next time a prospect loves your offer but hesitates to buy, ask yourself:

Have I explained what I do?

Or have I helped them understand why it matters?

Because visibility alone doesn't create clients.

Neither does information.

The real opportunity is helping the right people understand the value of the change you can help them make.
